6 dishes for your leftovers

Dishes that turn leftover ingredients into yummy dish.

We’re all in it now. Let’s face it, we know that you are going to go online and order, go down to the market and da bao. Sooner or later you are probably going to buy something and start cooking it yourself.

Congratulations, this Lockdown, Stay Home, Work From Home, Circuit Breaker has finally got you cooking. You know its saving you money making your own meals. Some of you may have even made something healthy or better yet tried a new recipe!

But sometimes, we get too busy to cook, or buy too much. Then comes the big question: What to do with the leftovers?

We’ve come up with some common dishes that can take leftovers and become a meal.

Fried

Fried Rice

Main Ingredient: Day old rice

Fried rice is probably the epitome of using leftover ingredient. There are 101 different recipes using all sorts of ingredients. Doesn’t matter if they are greens or protein.

Omelette

Main Ingredient: Eggs

Great for snacks or a side dish to a full meal. Requires a bit of dicing though. Most importantly, make sure your oil is hot. Can’t think of anything that doesn’t go with eggs.

Vegetable Stir Fry

Main Ingredient: Vegetables, Aromatics (onions, garlic, ginger), Oyster Sauce

It’s really the thought of what combination will go together. Leftover vegetables, some protein (optional), throw in some oyster sauce and voila! Simple quick dish.

Uncooked

Salads

Main Ingredient: Vegetables

Just need to be sure that the vegetables used can be eaten raw. It doesn’t really take much time to make a salad when you have leftovers. Perfect if you have some leftover meat from last night’s dinner. Throw in a simple dressing.

Boiled

Curry

Main Ingredient: Curry pre mix, Plain Yoghurt or Coconut milk

There are so many recipes for curry. A wonderful one dish meal with rice or bread. Yum! The traditional recipe calls for potato and chicken. But there are also those that vegetables and just about any protein, fish, lamb, beef, take your pick. This will need a bit of research based on the ingredients you have leftover.

Clear Soup

Main Ingredient: Carrot, Potato, Soup Stock, Onions

Really if you have leftover aromatic vegetables, clear soups and stews are a great choice. Carrots, onions, celery, potato, all great for soups and stews. Great on a rainy day.
