Affendy Bin Suboh
Personal Trainer/ Sports Trainer/ Group Fitness Coach
Affendy is currently active in promoting group High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) as well as Personal Training. An ex-national rugby player, he represented Singapore actively from 1990 to 2000 in regional and international tournaments. A firm believer in keeping fit for life, he continues to play and coach rugby in the domestic level till the age of 40, leading his team to win the National Rugby 7’s aside. An Army officer by training, he accomplished Gold Standard in IPPT till his last day of service as an NSmen. He believes in leading by example, evidenced by his numerous awards such as Best Recruit, Sword of Merit, NSmen of the Year (2003), and when he was appointed as SAF Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to the President, serving the late President Ong Teng Cheong and President SR Nathan.
After retiring from competitive rugby, Affendy keeps himself involved in the fitness industry by coaching various sports associations in strength and resistance training. The objective of his training is to take the players' stamina and endurance to the next level. In recent years, he partnered with the Academy of Sports and Exercise Science (ASES) in conjunction with the Health Promotion Board (HPB) in conducting outdoor HIIT sessions at various sports centres. Currently, with the heightened alert situation, he conducts his HIIT sessions via Zoom, thrice weekly, organized by HPB and ASES in April 2021. As of today, he is rocking virtual scene 6 times weekly.
Together with his personal training, Affendy uses these platforms to spread the message of cultivating good habits and healthy living. He shares his healthy living with his clients and participants, reminding them of the importance of adequate sleep, proper hydration, a balanced diet, and consistent exercise in a simple straightforward way. In addition, his principle is that being Healthy is the first step of being happy. A happy individual will in turn empower the community to be stronger and healthy.
